300F Oven to Air Fryer: Temperature & Time Conversion: Temperature, Time, and Food Examples

300°F in an oven is 275°F in an air fryer, or 135°C, with the cooking time reduced by 20%. A dish that bakes at 300°F for 30 minutes goes into the air fryer at 275°F for 24 minutes.

What is 300F (150C) used for?

Gentle baking and slow roasting. Used for custards and cheesecakes that curdle at higher heat, and for reheating without drying out.

Important adjustment at this temperature

Reduce by 15–20°F (-5°C) rather than the full 25°F (-5°C) below 325°F (165°C). The surface effect the reduction compensates for weakens at low temperatures, and a full reduction can leave food underdone.

Why subtract 25°F (-5°C)?

An air fryer drives air across food at high velocity, stripping away the still, cooler layer that otherwise insulates the surface in a conventional oven. Heat reaches the food faster at the same dial setting, so 300°F (150°C) in an air fryer would brown and dry harder than 300°F (150°C) in an oven. Subtracting 25°F (-5°C) brings the effective heat back into line. Full derivation on the methodology page.

Does basket capacity change this?

More than temperature does. The converted times assume a single loose layer with visible gaps between pieces. If the basket is more than two-thirds full, air cannot circulate and the food steams rather than crisps — cook in two batches, or add 15–20% to the time and shake at the halfway point.

Related conversions and adjacent topics

This temperature is one point on a continuous rule rather than a special case. Adjacent settings convert identically, and the 25°F (15°C) and 20% rule explains why both adjustments are needed rather than one.

To convert a temperature this page does not list, the oven to air fryer conversion calculator applies the same rule to any figure.

Frequently asked questions

What is 300F in an air fryer?
275°F, or 135°C, with the cooking time reduced by 20%.

What is 300F in Celsius?
149°C. For an air fryer converted from this oven temperature, set 135°C.

How long do I air fry something that bakes for 30 minutes at 300F?
24 minutes at 275°F (135°C). Check at 17 minutes on the first attempt.

Do I need to preheat?
Three minutes for anything that needs a crisp exterior. Skip it for slow bakes and covered dishes, and add 2–3 minutes to the converted time if you do skip it.

Does my air fryer’s wattage matter?
Below 1,400W, add 2–3 minutes per 20 minutes of converted time. Above 1,700W, check 2 minutes early.
