To convert an air fryer recipe to a convection oven, add 10°F (5°C) to the temperature and add 10% to the cooking time. An air fryer recipe at 375°F for 20 minutes becomes 385°F for 22 minutes in a convection oven.

Air Fryer to Convection Oven Chart
| Air fryer | Convection oven | Air fryer time | Convection time |
|---|---|---|---|
| 300°F / 150°C | 310°F / 155°C | 10 min | 11 min |
| 325°F / 165°C | 335°F / 170°C | 15 min | 17 min |
| 350°F / 175°C | 360°F / 180°C | 20 min | 22 min |
| 375°F / 190°C | 385°F / 195°C | 25 min | 28 min |
| 380°F / 195°C | 390°F / 200°C | 30 min | 33 min |
| 400°F / 205°C | 410°F / 210°C | 35 min | 39 min |
| 425°F / 220°C | 435°F / 225°C | 40 min | 44 min |
Celsius: add 5°C. 175°C becomes 180°C, 190°C becomes 195°C, 200°C becomes 205°C.
This is the smallest conversion on the site, because these two appliances are the same machine at different scales. Both use a heating element and a fan to drive air across the food. The air fryer simply runs its fan faster in a smaller cavity, so moving to a convection oven costs you a little heat transfer efficiency — worth about 10°F (-10°C) and 10% of the time.
Why is this conversion so much smaller than air fryer to a regular oven?
Because the fan is already there. Going from an air fryer to a conventional, still-air oven requires adding back 25°F (-5°C) to compensate for losing forced circulation entirely. A convection oven has not lost it — only some fan velocity — so 10°F (-10°C) covers the gap.
What is the main advantage of moving to a convection oven?
Capacity. An air fryer basket holds one or two servings in a single layer; a convection oven holds several trays. Because both appliances circulate air, scaling up in a convection oven usually costs only 10–15% more time rather than requiring separate batches.
Will the food still be as crisp?
Close, but slightly less. Use a wire rack over a sheet pan so air reaches the underside, spread food in a single layer with visible gaps, and avoid crowding trays. Those three changes recover most of the difference. If your convection oven has a "convection roast" mode, use it over "convection bake" for crisp foods — it runs the fan harder.
Does the tray position matter?
More than in an air fryer. Convection ovens circulate well but still have a stronger zone near the fan, usually at the back. Rotate the tray once at the halfway point for anything cooking longer than 20 minutes, and use the middle rack unless the recipe says otherwise.
Does my oven's auto-adjust interfere?
It can. Some convection ovens silently subtract 25°F (-5°C) from whatever you set, on the assumption you entered a conventional temperature. If yours does this, entering the converted figure will undercook the food. Check the manual, and if auto-adjust is active, enter the conventional equivalent instead — air fryer temperature plus 25°F (-5°C).

Temperature and time convert together, never separately. The same rule set covers every appliance pair on this site, and the methodology page sets out where it comes from and the seven conditions under which it stops holding.
Every figure above is built into the oven to air fryer conversion calculator, which applies both adjustments together so you do not have to work them out separately.
Frequently asked questions
What is 400°F (205°C) air fryer in a convection oven?
410°F, or about 210°C, with 10% more time. A 20-minute air fryer cook becomes 22 minutes.
Can I just use the same temperature?
For short cooks under 10 minutes, usually yes. For longer cooks the 10°F (-10°C) makes a visible difference to browning.
Is a convection oven better than an air fryer?
For volume, yes. For a single portion of anything crisp, the air fryer is faster and browns harder. They are the same technology optimised for different quantities.
How do I scale the quantity up?
Weigh rather than count. Doubling the weight in a convection oven typically adds 10–15% to the time, provided the food stays in a single layer with gaps.
What if my oven only has conventional mode?
Use the air fryer to oven conversion instead — add 25°F (-5°C) and 25% time.
